Lanang, Davao City– The Commission on Higher Education (CHED), through its Office of Programs and Standards Development (OPSD), in collaboration with CHED Regional Office XI, conducted a two-day series of nursing education consultations on June 26–27, 2025, at the Grand Regal Hotel, Lanang, Davao City. The activity reaffirmed CHED’s commitment to enhancing the quality and responsiveness of nursing education in the Philippines. OPSD representatives Mr. John Paul dela Cruz and Ms. Nina Palaganas provided technical support and coordination throughout the event, which aimed to align nursing curricula with national health priorities and global workforce demands through the integration of Primary Health Care (PHC) competencies.
The first day featured a Public Consultation on the proposed Policies, Standards, and Guidelines (PSGs) for the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program, covering both academic and professional tracks. This was followed by a Public Orientation on the reoriented Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program outcomes, emphasizing the integration of PHC content across both theoretical and clinical components. These sessions provided a platform for deans, program chairs, clinical partners, and regulatory stakeholders to collaborate on strengthening outcomes-based education and improving the alignment of nursing programs with the needs of local and global health systems.
Day two focused on the Public Consultation on the Proposed Guidelines for the Accreditation of Health Facilities used for Related Learning Experience (RLE). The discussion centered on establishing clear compliance standards, institutional responsibilities, and quality assurance mechanisms to ensure that clinical training environments are safe, effective, and pedagogically sound. The consultations were guided by members of the Technical Panel for Nursing Education, chaired by Dr. Milabel E. Ho, and composed of experts Dr. Carmelita C. Divinagracia, Dr. Mary Grace C. Lacanaria, Dr. Annabelle R. Borromeo, Dr. Sheila R. Bonito, Dr. Maria Martina Geraldine Q. Dimalibot, Dr. Johanna S. Banzon, and Dr. Rudolf Cymorr Kirby P. Martinez.
A total of 165 participants from Regions IX, X, XI, XII, and CARAGA joined the two-day activity. These included CHEDRO focal persons for nursing education, deans and program chairs of nursing programs from both public and private HEIs, as well as administrators of clinical laboratories and health facilities providing RLE. The event underscored the importance of stakeholder engagement, evidence-based policymaking, and intersectoral collaboration in shaping a nursing education system that is responsive, inclusive, and globally competitive.
