The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XI (CHED RO XI), through the Council of Deans, Heads, and Coordinators for Health-Related Programs, initiated a Call for Donation Drive to extend assistance to the victims of the recent earthquake that struck Davao Oriental. Anchored on the theme “One CHED, One Heart: Region XI HEIs Rising Together for Davao Oriental,” the initiative showcased the compassion, unity, and collective effort of the higher education community in Region XI.

The call for donations was warmly received by numerous Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and student organizations across the region. These include Davao Medical School Foundation, University of the Immaculate Conception, University of Mindanao, San Pedro College, Davao Doctors College, AMYA Polytechnic College, Lyceum of the Philippines Davao, Mapúa Malayan Colleges Mindanao, Southeastern College of Padada, DMMA College of Southern Philippines, Mindanao Medical Foundation College, Davao del Sur State College, MATS College of Technology, and Brokenshire College. Their prompt and generous response highlighted the enduring Filipino spirit of bayanihan and the shared commitment to lend a helping hand to communities in need. Donations included essential goods and relief items intended to support affected families and aid in their recovery.

In addition, the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges – Student Network (APMC-SN), represented by medical student organizations from Davao Medical School Foundation, Brokenshire College, Jose Maria College Foundation, Inc., and the University of Southeastern Philippines, also took part in the drive, contributing both resources and volunteer efforts. Their participation further strengthened the impact of the initiative, demonstrating the youth’s unwavering commitment to service, empathy, and civic responsibility.

All collected donations were personally turned over to Davao Oriental State University, Mati Doctors College, and Mati Polytechnic College/Colegio de Caraga, which served as partner institutions for the distribution of relief assistance to their affected faculty, students, families, and adopted barangays. The turnover activity, held on October 21, 2025, was spearheaded by Dr. Liza C. Suan, Education Supervisor II and Adviser of the Council, together with Council President Dr. Leonila P. Felizarte. The team, composed of CHED XI personnel, Council officers, and NSTP coordinators, personally visited the institutions to ensure the donations reached their intended beneficiaries.

Through this collaborative endeavor, CHED RO XI and the Council of Deans, Heads, and Coordinators for Health-Related Programs reaffirmed their dedication to responsive higher education that goes beyond the classroom. The initiative reflects the unwavering commitment of the academy to social responsibility, compassion, and nation-building. Indeed, with one heart and one vision, Region XI HEIs rise together for Davao Oriental.
