CHED OSDS Conducts Mindanao-Wide Virtual Orientation on CMO No. 6, s. 2026
Online via Zoom Platform— The Commission on Higher Education – Office of Student Development and Services (CHED-OSDS) conducted a Mindanao-wide Virtual Public Orientation on CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 6, s. 2026, entitled “Policies and Guidelines on the Regulation and Operation of HEI-Based Organizations in the Prevention and Prohibition of All Forms of Hazing Affecting Students’ Well-Being,” on May 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. via Zoom. The activity aimed to strengthen awareness and understanding of the newly issued policy among higher education institutions (HEIs) and stakeholders across Mindanao.
The virtual orientation brought together representatives from HEIs, Student Affairs and Services (SAS) Heads, and other key stakeholders from Regions IX, X, XI, XII, and Caraga. The activity provided participants with a comprehensive discussion of the provisions of CMO No. 6, s. 2026, particularly its policies and guidelines governing HEI-based organizations and the prevention and prohibition of all forms of hazing that may affect the safety, welfare, and well-being of students.
The orientation emphasized the responsibility of HEIs to establish and strengthen appropriate institutional mechanisms to ensure compliance with the policy. Participants were guided on the roles and responsibilities of institutions and concerned stakeholders, including the importance of preventive measures, proper monitoring, reporting mechanisms, and appropriate institutional responses to incidents involving hazing. The discussion also highlighted the need for HEIs to integrate student protection and welfare into the regulation and operation of campus-based organizations.
Beyond policy compliance, the activity served as a platform for dialogue and collaboration among HEIs and partner stakeholders in promoting safe, inclusive, respectful, and violence-free learning environments. Participants were provided with guidance on policy implementation, compliance requirements, and practices consistent with national standards for student development and services.
Through the orientation, CHED-OSDS aims to strengthening student protection and welfare across higher education institutions in Mindanao. The activity underscored the shared responsibility of CHED, HEIs, student organizations, and other stakeholders in creating campus communities where students can participate in organizations and activities in an environment that upholds their dignity, safety, rights, and overall well-being.
