The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XI (CHED RO XI) organized a Hybrid Seminar on Developing Futures Thinking Among UniFAST last May 19, 2022 at USeP Social Hall, USeP Obrero Campus as part of the region’s celebration of the 2nd National Higher Education Day and commemoration of 28th CHED Founding Anniversary.
In line with the commission’s mandate to ensure that the country’s human capital stays locally responsive and globally competitive, the hybrid seminar aimed to educate the participants on futures thinking and strategic foresight to prepare them for the challenges of a VUCA (Volative, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous) world and equip them for the workforce of the future.
The said activity was attended by 59 Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES) and/or Tulong Dunong Program (TDP-TES) grantees, 62 Scholarship Focal Persons, and an estimate of 9,500 viewers via Facebook Live.
CHED Commissioner Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag, as keynote speaker, underscored the importance of the said activity in providing the UniFAST grantees an avenue to shift their perspectives and form their own foresight through this seminar. Commissioner hoped that the activity would spur conversations and gather knowledge, explore underlying issues, map emerging risks and opportunities and build future competencies and capabilities to craft proactive programs and policy agenda.
Present in the seminar is the University of Southeastern Philippines Associate Professor Dr. Rec E. Eguia who emphasized the value of growth mindset in developing futures thinking to the grantees. “It is with growth mindset that you will seek incremental improvement for yourselves”, he said.
Concurrent to the hybrid seminar, CHED RO XI also held its 1st CHED Onse: Tagisan ng Kaalaman sa CHED at UniFAST” and the awarding of the winners for the Digital Album Competition with the theme, “CHED and CHED RO XI Through the Years”.
Jerve Robin T. Paterno from Davao del Sur State College toppled other contenders from different Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) from Davao Region, icing his victory with a 7654 points against the 6756 points of his closest rival from Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology, Marlon T. Owa.
Malayan Colleges Mindanao won the first place for digital album competition and received the Php 5,000 prize while Holy Cross of Davao College and St. John Paul II College bagged the second and third place, respectively. Moreover, a special award with Php2,000 prize was given to Sto. Tomas College of Agriculture, Sciences and Technology for having the entry with the most number of social engagement on Facebook.
