To contribute to the Commission’s thrusts in aligning HEIs typology by promoting the conversion of qualified State Colleges into State Universities in the country, CHED RO XI provided technical assistance to the Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) and Davao del Sur State College (DSSC). CHED highlighted the role of Universities in the country, considering that the latter are expected to provide highly specialized educational experiences to train experts in the various technical and disciplinal areas and by emphasizing the development of new knowledge and skills through research and development.
CHED RO XI oriented SPAMAST and DSSC, Davao Region state colleges in Davao Occidental and Davao del Sur, respectively, on the Universityhood requirements in the areas of (1) Enrollment, (2) Programs, (3) Faculty, (4) Research, (5) Learning Resources, (6) Support Structures, (7) Linkages, and (8) Outreach Activities per CMO No. 46, S. 2012, otherwise known as the “Policy-Standard to Enhance Quality Assurance (QA) in Philippine Higher Education through an Outcomes-Based and Typology-Based QA.”
The activity was a proactive response and preparation for the proposed conversion of SPAMAST and DSSC into State University per HB 9023 and HB 7141, as introduced by Hon. Rep. Claude P. Bautista and Hon. Rep. John Tracy F. Cagas, respectively. CHED RO XI Dir. Maricar R.
