In a significant move towards enhancing the quality of Engineering and Technology Education in Region XI, the Council of Deans of Engineering Education in Region XI (CODEE XI), in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XI (CHED RO XI) and the University of Mindanao’s College of Engineering Education conducted an orientation on OBE at AVR 4, University of Mindanao Library, Matina Davao City on July 5, 2024
Dr. Pedrito M. Castillo, Vice President of the Institute of Pedagogical Advancement and Competitiveness, led the session with an in-depth discussion on Outcome-Based Education and the University of Mindanao’s (UM) best practices in implementing OBE. His presentation provided valuable insights into the pedagogical shift towards focusing on students’ learning outcomes and ensuring that educational programs are aligned with industry needs.
Meanwhile, Dr. Maria Christina B. Condez addressed the attendees on CHED-OBE-based monitoring and the Unified Evaluation Instrument for Engineering and Technology. Dr. Condez highlighted the compliance requirements with CHED Memorandum Order No. 37, Series of 2012, which sets the standards for the outcomes-based quality assurance system in Philippine higher education institutions.
Furthermore, the event was hosted by the University of Mindanao. It was attended by Dr. Louie C. Juera, CHED RO XI, Education Supervisor II and In-charge for Engineering Technology Programs, 86 Deans, Program heads, and Faculty members from 17 Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
The orientation was not just about knowledge transfer but its practical application. It aimed to equip educators with the necessary tools and knowledge to confidently implement OBE in their respective institutions, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence in engineering and technology education in the Davao region.
