Davao City- To strengthen the alignment of engineering education with industry needs and national standards, the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XI (CHED RO XI), in partnership with the Council of Deans for Engineering Education Region XI (CODEE XI) and the University of Mindanao–College of Engineering Education (UM-CEE), conducted a coordination meeting on August 5, 2025.
The meeting laid the groundwork for the 1st Regional Industry-Government-Academe Fora on Curriculum Review for Engineering Programs, which aims to bring together key stakeholders from the academic, government, and private sectors to assess and update the curricula of priority engineering programs in the Davao Region. The first batch of programs includes Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

Hosted by UM-CEE and facilitated by CODEE XI, the upcoming fora aim to ensure that engineering programs remain relevant, outcomes-based, and responsive to the rapidly changing technological landscape. The initiative also seeks to support the effective implementation of CHED Memorandum Order No. 37, series of 2012, which outlines the Policies, Standards, and Guidelines (PSGs) for an Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) system in engineering education.
Present during the coordination meeting were CODEE XI officers led by Engr. Michael Calamba, CHED RO XI adviser to CODEE XI Dr. Maria Christina Condez, and the Dean and Program Heads of UM-CEE. The activity highlighted the importance of continuous curriculum review and multi-sectoral collaboration to produce globally competitive engineers equipped with the skills and knowledge needed in today’s workforce.
This regional initiative affirms CHED RO XI’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence, quality assurance, and partnership-building among higher education institutions and industry partners.
