The Commission on Higher Education Regional (CHED RO) XI, through the CHED Tertiary School Sports Development and Management Unit, hosted the National Hybrid Orientation on the Return to Collegiate Athletic Competitions on March 11, 2022 at Grand Men Seng Hotel, Davao City.

The national hybrid orientation was participated by the distinguished Executive Director Atty. Cinderella Filipina S. Benitez-Jaro, CHED Sports Project Lead, Coach Ana Dulce B. Yango, CHED RO XI Regional Director Dir. Maricar R. Casquejo, Chief Education Program Specialist (CEPS) Engr. Luis D. Perez, other CHED Officials and Personnel, and sports directors and coordinators from the various Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the country via Hybrid platforms. 

The said event was attended by sixty-eight (68) in-venue participants composed of school directors and coordinators from the HEIs in Davao Region and reached a total number of 276 Zoom participants and  9,400 Facebook Live Viewers.

As a key agency mandated to promote physical education and encourage sports programs, league competitions, and amateur sports, including training for international competitions, to foster self-discipline, teamwork, and excellence for the development of a healthy and alert citizenry, the CHED Sports Team, through the leadership of Executive Director Atty. Jaro, aimed to inform the HEIs on how they can return to collegiate athletic competitions during the COVID-19 pandemic while observing the minimum health protocols laid down by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) and Department of Health (DOH), to ensure continuity of sports development in the country.

 In her message, Executive Director Atty. Jaro expressed her gratitude to the CHED Sports Team and CHED RO XI as the host region for the preparations made to conduct the event. She also gave thanks to the Technical Working Group (TWG) members, the Sports Directors or Coordinators from different Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Davao Region, and to the participants in Zoom and Facebook Live for their continuous service and support to the Sports Program. She then gave a brief context of the CHED Sports Program in line with the importance of Sports in Tertiary Education, and some of the planned activities for the coming months. 

Prior to this activity, the Executive Director Atty. Jaro, CHED Sports Project Lead Coach Ana, Regional Director Dir. Casquejo, CEPS Engr. Perez, and other personnel and staff of CHED Sports and CHED RO XI conducted an on-site school visitation to the University of Mindanao (UM) and University of the Philippines Mindanao (UP Min) to assess the readiness of Higher Education Institutions for the return to collegiate athletic trainings and competitions and the safe reopening of schools for the limited face-to-face classes under the new normal.
