The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office (CHEDRO) XI, in partnership with the Regional Development Council (RDC) XI, conducted a presentation and launching of “Embracing the Fourth Industrial Revolution (FIRe) in Davao Region: The Resilience in Education through Development and Innovations (REDI) for FIRe Framework towards FIRe-Responsive and Prepared Human Capital” on January 12, 2022, via Hybrid platform. 

The delegation of the event reached a total number of 885 participants in Zoom and 50,660 Facebook Live Viewers with 1,229 Facebook shares and 22,148 interactions.

The said event was participated by the distinguished CHED Commissioner Prof. Lilian A. De Las Llagas, CHED Office of Institutional Quality Assurance and Governance Director Dr. Luisa S. Valencia, CHED Office of Programs and Standards Development Dr. Cherrie Melanie Ancheta-Diego, Department of Science and Technology (DOST) XI Regional Director Dr. Anthony C. Sales, Chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC) XI Governor Tyron L. Uy, Vice-Chairperson of RDC XI and National Economic Development and Authority (NEDA) XI Director Dr. Maria Lourdes D. Lim, CHEDROXI Regional Director Dr. Maricar R. Casquejo, other CHED Officials and Personnel, and Presidents, Deans, Faculty, and Students from the various Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the country via Hybrid platforms. 

In consonance with CHED’s mission to catalyze a Philippine higher education system that is locally responsive and globally competitive and serves as a force for lifelong learning, innovation, and social and cultural transformation, through the leadership of CHED Chairman J. Prospero E. De Vera III, CHEDRO XI aimed to inform interested individuals on how the agency, with the support of the Regional Development Council (RDC) XI and various industry and government agencies as partners, guide the (HEIs) in Davao Region as they embrace FIRe and help in the realization of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals, Philippine Development Plan, and the Davao Regional Development Plan using the REDI for FIRe framework.

The REDI for FIRe Framework is crafted as joint efforts of CHED Commissioner Prof. Lilian A. De Las Llagas, CHEDRO XI Regional Director Dr. Maricar R. Casquejo, National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) XI Director Maria Lourdes D. Lim, and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) XI Director Anthony C. Sales, who aside from their valuable inputs, also provided the necessary support on the HEIs’ operationalization of the framework.

In her Keynote Message, CHED Commissioner Prof. Lilian A. De Las Llagas emphasized the need for educational institutions to seize the tremendous opportunity to take advantage of technological advances and undergo a drastic paradigm shift from the traditional way of doing things. “Our role is to ensure that all Filipinos are provided access to relevant and quality tertiary education that will allow them to acquire the knowledge, skills, values, and future competencies that emerging industries will require. A kind of education that will prepare them to compete and excel in a world that continues to become more globalized and technology-driven”, she said.
