The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office XI, along with the Social Ethics Society Journal of Applied Philosophy, conducted a Research and Publication Webinar-Workshop for Philosophy Teachers on January 14, 2022, via Zoom and Facebook Live with the theme “The Grammar of Publishing: A Webinar-Workshop on Getting Your Research Published”.
As a key agency mandated to promote quality higher education and foster intellectual growth, under the leadership of CHED Chairman J. Prospero E. De Vera II, CHEDROXI aimed to capacitate the Philosophy teachers in the region with the necessary know-how and technical expertise in conducting and publishing researches to contribute to the existing body of knowledge and literature in the context of Philosophy.
The virtual activity was participated by 69 participants in Zoom and 6,798 in Facebook Live viewers composed of Philosophy teachers, researchers and other interested individuals from various Higher Education Institutions. The said activity was moderated by Dr. Rogelio Bayod, one of the editors of the Social Ethics Society Journal of Applied Philosophy, a professional organization of Philosophy teachers, researchers, and graduate students based in the Southern Region of the Philippines
In the morning session, the Dean for School of Arts and Sciences of the Ateneo de Davao University, Dr. Renante Pilapil, shared his reflections on his publication journey and the importance of publishing philosophical papers. “For many years, the philosophers that we study is mainly in the west. There is a strong invitation to make our own Filipino voices heard in the world of Philosophy”, he said.
Also, Mr. Ian Clark Parcon, a faculty of Ateneo de Davao University, discussed publishable philosophical research themes and gave valuable insights on how to narrow down a research topic into a clear main thesis statement. After the discussions, the participants were given time to raise questions and delve into a comprehensive discourse on the challenges and perplexing concepts and methods when using the philosophical and ethical lens on a relevant real-world issue.
In the afternoon session, a Writing Workshop for crafting research topics was conducted to engage the Philosophy teachers in the philosophical research writing process. Afterward, the participants presented their research topics and were critiqued by the members of the Board of Social Ethics Society Journal of Applied Philosophy.
