The Philippine Credit Transfer System (PCTS) Orientation – Mindanao Cluster was hosted by CHED RO XI at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City on May 8, 2023. This activity was conducted by the Philippine Qualifications Framework-National Coordinating Council (PQF-NCC), through the Working Groups for Pathways and Equivalencies. The activity featured presentations on the PCTS, as well as discussions on its implementation and the challenges that HEIs may encounter during the transition to the new credit transfer system.

The recently issued Joint Memorandum Circular No. 1 issued by CHED and TESDA on April 14, 2023, officially launched the System that allows students to seamlessly transition from Technical-Vocational Courses to Higher Education degree programs. Under this system, students pursuing a bachelor’s degree who have completed specific competencies in TESDA-accredited vocational courses may have their college credits recognized by CHED-accredited higher education institutions (HEIs).

Dr. Christopher Pio O. Pulido, CHEDRO XI OIC-Office of the Director IV, warmly welcomed to the event over 300 onsite attendees and almost 300 participants virtually.

The activity was attended both in person and via Zoom by distinguished officials and guests from CHED, TESDA, PRC, and DOLE for Regions IX, X, XI, XII, BARMM, and Caraga, and selected HEIs.  The PCTS Guidelines and Principles were presented by Dr. Jose Y. Cueto, Jr., Commissioner of PRC, Dr. Reynaldo B. Vea, President of Mapua University, Dr. Cherrie Melanie Ancheta-Diego, CESO III, Director IV of CHED-OPSD, and Dir. David B. Bungallon, Executive Director of National Institute for TESDA. In addition, the Pilot Programs – Dentistry, Tourism/ Hospitality Management and Agricultural Biosystems Engineering by Dr. Melanie L. Garcia, Member of Professional Board of Dentistry-PRC, Chancellor Benhur A. Ong, Chairman of CHED Technical Committee for Tourism and Hospitality Management, and Engr. Ariodear C. Rico, Member of Professional Board of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering-PRC, respectively.

This is a timely development and opportunity for both the tech-voc and higher education students to take advantage of this coming August for AY 2023-2024.
