As a key component of CHED’s goal of sustaining the Quality and Excellence of higher education institutions (HEIs), the provision of solid academic linkages with businesses and industries abroad for cross-cultural training and skills enhancement has been encouraged and promoted to make students competitive for employment in the Philippines and abroad.
Initiated by the CHED-Office of Student Development and Services (CHED-OSDS), CHED XI hosted the Orientation on CMO No. 10 series 2023, or the “Enhanced Policies, Standards, and Guidelines (PSGs) on Student Internship Abroad Program (SIAP)” to over 200 HEI Officials and Focal Persons from the different Higher Education Institutions and CHED Regional Offices from Regions VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, XI, XII, and Caraga on October 26, 2023 at the Acacia Hotel, Davao City.
CHED’s Strategic Plan 2023-2028 fosters the development and promotion of programs, policies, systems, and procedures that address the globalization of trade in goods and services relevant to higher education, and to adopt, with partner agencies, measures to ensure the safety and well-being of these students while providing them with opportunities for applied learning, cross-cultural training, and skill enhancement in reputable companies and training institutions worldwide. Thus, SIAP allows students to acquire practical knowledge and skills, enhancing their work values, competencies, and discipline as they interact with others in a multicultural workplace.
CHED XI Regional Director Dr. Maricar R. Casquejo, CESO III, welcomed the participant by highlighting the HEI’s vital role in “shaping the students’ future towards global competitiveness while ensuring their security and safety as they embody the ambassadorship of both the institution and the country.” This was further supported by OSDS OIC-Director III Dr. Marivic V. Iriberri, when she added that “institutions’ are challenged to produce locally and globally competitive students” during her Statement of Purpose.
The activity was also graced by Atty. Stephanie Ruth B. Sy of the Bureau of Immigration’s (BI) Immigration Regulation Division and Inter-Agency Technical Working Group Member on SIAP. Atty. Sy oriented the participants on the BI’s Rules and Regulations in Development of Student Interns Abroad.
