To enhance the overall quality of education, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and improve the academic reputation of criminology programs, the Commission on Higher Education Region XI (CHED RO XI), in partnership with the College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) of the University of Mindanao (UM), discusses the development of a comprehensive intervention program.
This is due to the results of the monitoring and evaluation conducted by CHED RO XI, which revealed that there is an urgent and significant shortage of qualified criminology faculty members with master’s degrees (MDs) in the Davao region offering criminology programs.
Moreover, the program will include actionable strategies to encourage and support faculty members in obtaining advanced degrees.
Currently, UM is the only higher education institute (HEI) in Region XI to be granted Center for Excellence status for criminology programs.
Additionally, about 50 participants were present in the discussion composed of heads of HEIs and program heads held via Zoom on June 28, 2024.
