On January 25, 2021, the CHEDRO XI conducted the “2021 Personality Development Boot Camp for CHED RO XI UnifAST and StuFAPs Grantees and Scholars and Students in Davao Region” via Zoom conferencing and Facebook Live. The said Boot Camp was graced by CHED Chairman J. Prospero E. De Vera III and Davao City Mayor Hon. Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio, who gave inspirational messages and who both commended CHED Regional Office XI for preparing sessions that are geared to provide holistic approach for the personality development of the scholars, grantees and the students.
It can be recalled that CHED Chairman De Vera made history by heading the first Commission to openly support and implement the Republic Act (RA) No. 10931, otherwise known as the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act – “an act promoting universal access to quality tertiary education by providing free tuition and other school fees in State Universities and Colleges, Local Universities and Colleges, and State-Run Technical-Vocational Institutions, establishing the Tertiary Education Subsidy and Student Loan Program, strengthening the Unified Student Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education, and appropriating fund therefore.” The whole day activity had four sessions.
The First Session entitled “Caring for Yourself while Caring for Others (Servant Leadership)” given by Mr. Ralph T. Layco provided skills on leading teams and people with care and how to become useful citizens. Ms. Salve Duplito’s Session entitled “Gipit Hacks: Tips on Turning Your Allowance into Income” taught budgeting and being resourceful to look for means in becoming self-reliant. “Faith and Prayer Life for Generation Z”, the Third Session by Fr. Jessel Gerard “Jboy” Gonzales, SJ, helped the students understand and appreciate having personal relationship with God and to deepen your spiritual development.
Lastly, “True Love Waits” by Dr. Gia Sison discussed the consequences of engaging oneself to any endeavor prior to marriage and without proper preparation. This reached almost 500,000 streamers and had more than 200,000 engagements and counting. CHED, as reiterated by Chairman De Vera, is one with the Duterte administration in investing on our youth by providing financial assistance and scholarships to access quality education.
